SS-31, also known as Elamipretide, is a small mitochondria-targeted peptide. It belongs to the Szeto-Schiller (SS) family of peptides, which are designed to pass into cells and concentrate in the inner membrane of the mitochondria.

SS-31 binds to cardiolipin, a fat found in the inner mitochondrial membrane that is essential for energy production. By stabilising cardiolipin, it has been studied for its ability to support mitochondrial function and reduce oxidative stress. It has been researched in conditions linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, such as certain heart, muscle and age-related disorders.
